  • cause Last night, an oil refinery blaze at a Chevron plant in Richmond, Calif. caused a large plume of black smoke that could be seen from miles away. Or in other words, it was kind of scary.
  • effects The refinery fire blazed through Monday evening, causing local residents to be stuck in their homes for hours, though with little wind, the fumes didn’t dissipate — which is good for air quality.
  • results Despite being largely contained, the fire caused a stop in production at the plant, which may cause higher gas prices in the days to come. The plant handles 240,000 barrels per day. source
