His chute was still on top of the building and it was still attached to him. He wasn’t coherent, he had blood on his face.
Virginia Beach resident Ted Laffkas • Describing the initial condition of a Navy pilot who jumped out of his plane before it crashed into a residential building Friday afternoon. (There was also a second pilot involved.) Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Nick Beane, who happened to be nearby when the crash happened, helped the pilot remove his parachute cables as he regained consciousness. The pilot seemed in awe about what just happened, according to Beane. Laffkas also assisted in rescue efforts.
