(There was also a second pilot involved.) Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Nick Beane, who happened to be nearby when the crash happened, helped the pilot remove his parachute cables as he regained consciousness. The pilot seemed in awe about what just happened, according to Beane. Laffkas also assisted in rescue efforts.
