The New York Ave-Florida Ave-Gallaudet U Metro stop has been renamed, mainly because that’s a really freaking long name that nobody will ever remember. Fortunately, someone already invented a name for this mishmash neighborhood. The Metro stop’s new name? “NoMa-Gallaudet U.” In DC, metro stops have this way of giving a neighborhood its name. The Van Ness-UDC stop, for example, is actually in the Forest Hills/North Cleveland Park neighborhood. But many people call it “Van Ness,” because that’s the name of the Metro stop. So, the developers win. Their invented name, which stands for “North of Massachusetts Avenue,” will now live on forever.
