Regarding The Onion thing: The only thing they really did wrong was write this post without any subtlety. If this had just a little bit more color to it, nobody would’ve complained. But The Onion has three million followers — enough so that people without a sense of humor might twist the wording and unintentionally cause panic. With the context of the NBC News hack recently, it made this come off a lot worse than it actually was. The joke is still funny. This tweet, in all its lacking subtlety, may have overshadowed the joke and led to overreactions.
