About: Let me explain what I’m doing

  • Hi, I’m Ernie Smith. I’m a 27-year-old journalist. I was recently laid off. So were a lot of my friends. It’s because the news industry is in decline. But news isn’t. So, maybe it’s time to figure out another road. Here’s one path.

What a great idea. Very cool to see the idea of short form editing taken to this new level. Great presentation, too. Kudos!

We have to do what we have always done — innovate via experiment. If we don’t we won’t find our way into a new world, and that’s all it is — a new world. So many people are afraid of that one little fact.

What scares them even more is that they don’t really have the answer. No one does. The future is untold as of the moment. The worst part is as we grow older we think we’re more onto the truth than those in their teens, who knew everything before they experienced it. (So who knows anything at all, really.)

As far as I’m concerned with what I can see with my little distorted human eyeglass, Ernie, you are onto something!! If it’s not something, it’s well worth investigating!

    Good luck! I’ll be back… a lot!

    Cheers!

A cool looking website, Ernie. Uncluttered and eye-catching. A very good start with the chance of more in-depth content on the way from you or your readers. I think you are exploring one of many possible futures of news on the web, be it an informative story or just a heads-up type brief for now. At the very least you are putting more tools in your toolbox for the future. Good luck and I’ll keep dropping by.

I was laid off from my newspaper in October, their only web developer. Sure, I built the website they use from scratch and a number of websites for various publications, but because of the troubling economic times they were forced to make cutbacks. But without a web presence, I’m not entirely sure how they plan to continue on. They are clinging to the belief that a printed edition will always outweigh an online one; this website is the perfect example of why they will falter and fail in that belief.

Good work, Ernie. This site is fantastic.

Got to this site from the Apture Tweet. Love the design. Maybe i shouldn’t tell you because I am going to “borrow” from it some day. I worked at TIME as an AD (25 years) and left to start my own graphics studio. I just posted your site and the Apture URL on my FaceBook page. Be interesting to see how many TIME “friends” respond. One client already did. jamiemalanowski.com
